Comprehension Passage 4 - What are the effects of bullying on mental health- Question of the Day

What are the effects of bullying on mental health?

By attitude, we mean the way one feels toward some event. He has his own way of thinking about some ideas or any event; however, it varies from person to person and place to place.

Bullying is the use of strength or power to frighten or hurt weaker people.  An atrocious person uses the power in a bullying way to get his means by all means.

However, how such an act affects the young and innocent mind so badly that their mental health, confidence Level, and personality growth get shattered. They can never regain their confidence level. The person who is bullied and tortured can not get the following valuable ends of education:  Self-esteem,  Self-confidence and Self-awareness.

Drastic Effects of Bullying:

1. Self-esteem is a very precious trait of character that leads the person to a high place by dint of his hard work and devotion. He not only benefits himself, but he also serves his nation. His devotion and dedication lend him honour and esteem in society. It damages his self-esteem badly by bullying him and he feels himself more shy.

2. Self-confidence is another valuable trait of character that lends him maturity and triumph that nobody can surpass. He overcomes his odd circumstances and shows ability at the time hour.  He needs no undue favour or reference to solve his problems. It shatters his confidence badly by bullying him and he suffers from an inferiority complex.

3. Self-awareness is the gist of his self-esteem and self-confidence that makes him know himself as well as his acquaintances. This self-awareness also urges him to follow the righteous path and always do the right.  He also loses his self-knowledge by bullying him and he feels shy and reticent.

Thus a person should always keep in his mind that he is not alone. He has to keep himself up-to-date and humble with his fellow beings. He can do what he likes to do. He can achieve what he likes to achieve in his life. Nothing is impossible if one is determined to serve others. Thus one should keep in his mind that bullying destroys a person very badly. This makes him unable to keep upright and move confidently in the world of challenges. Such insulting behaviour creates irrevocable hurdles in the development of a healthy mind.

There is a holy saying that those who don't love the kids and respect the elders are not included with us. So love to the kids and ensure our future is safe in their hands.

Types of Bullying

There are many different types of bullying that can be experienced by children and adults alike, some are obvious to spot while others can be more subtle, and more skilful. The different types of bullying that we look at below are some of the ways that bullying could be happening.

Physical bullying

Physical bullying includes hitting, kicking, tripping, pinching and pushing or damaging property. Physical bullying causes both short term and long term damage.

Verbal bullying

Verbal bullying includes name-calling, insults, teasing, intimidation, homophobic or racist remarks, or verbal abuse. While verbal bullying can start off harmless, it can escalate to levels which start affecting the individual target.

Social bullying

Social bullying, sometimes referred to as covert bullying, is often harder to recognise and can be carried out behind the bullied person’s back. It is designed to harm someone’s social reputation and/or cause humiliation.

Social bullying can include:

Lying and spreading rumours.

Negative facial or physical gestures, and menacing or contemptuous looks in different ways.

Playing nasty jokes to embarrass and humiliate the weaker.

Mimicking unkindly.

Encouraging others to socially exclude someone.

Damaging someone’s social reputation or social acceptance.

Cyberbullying

The Cyber Bullying Research Centre defines cyberbullying as Intentional and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, phones, and other electronic devices.

Cyberbullying can be overt or covert bullying behaviours using digital technologies including hardware such as computers and smartphones, and software such as social media, instant messaging, texts, websites and other online platforms. It damages the reputation very badly

Cyberbullying can happen at any time. It can be in public or in private and sometimes only known to the target and the person bullying.

Cyberbullying can include:

Abusive or hurtful texts, emails or posts, images or videos

Deliberately excluding others online.

Nasty gossip or rumours, and

Imitating others online or using their log.

Conclusion

A judicious person never tries to damage the mental health of an innocent person by any means  He is benign with his colleagues and fellows who love him much. In this way, it becomes two-way traffic and both can lead a healthy and prosperous life in the long run. Bullying not only damages the reputation of a bullied person, but it also damages the bullier. Live by yourself and let others live happily and peacefully. Those who hurt others can never get comfortable and satisfactory life.   They are always disturbed and on the prick of their conscience.
